OK guys, I've decided I'm going to attempt a Nuzlocke run. I'll be using Pokemon Platinum 1) because I've never played it before and 2) because fuck the 5th and 6th gyms in HG/SS. These are the rules I'm using:
1) If a pokemon faints in battle it is "killed" and must be released.
2) No healing items may be used in battle.
3) No healing items may be purchased at the pokemart (I can only use the items I find)
4) You can only catch the first new pokemon you see on each route. If it runs or faints, too bad.
5) I'm keeping my HM slaves. If one dies it will be put into my box and will NEVER be used in battle.
6) No legendaries
Now I want this to be fun for me as well, so I may be saving before major battles. If I get decimated I don't want to have to start the whole game over. It would be no fun for me, and I'd never finish my story. I'm going to attempt to write it more as a narrative instead of a plain log. If you guys don't like I can just do a simple bullet point type update.
Enjoy!
April 18th 2010
My name is Matt, but my friends call me Ninja. This is my story.
Today is the day. I've decided it's time to leave home and set out on my own. It's a dangerous world outside my door, filled with monsters known as pokemon. Pokemon are both our greatest allies and worst enemies. They are aggressive and will attack anything that threatens their territory. Because of this, no child is allowed to leave his hometown until he is ready to defend himself. For me, this has meant being stuck in the tiny town of Twinleaf. My only friend has been a mildly retarded boy named Percy. Today however, things change. Today I set out to find my destiny in the wide world.
I decided to sleep in this morning. Last night's going away party got a little sloppier than I expected. I said goodbye to Mom and headed out around noon. I had heard that Prof. Rowan was in town. I set out to find him and receive my first pokemon. I found Percy on route 201. The poor guy had grown impatient and decided to attempt to flee town by running through the long grass unprotected. Luckily Rowan showed up before he could attempt it. We were each allowed to choose a pokemon to be our new companions. I choose a PIPLUP whom I named Vanguard, as he will be at the head of my battle for fame and glory. Immediately after receiving Vanguard, Percy challenged me to a fight. His TURTWIG could have been a formidable foe, however Percy only enjoyed watching it crawl into it's shell and forgot to command it to attack. Vanguard was triumphant.
Free potion from the pokemart employee!
I caught a BIDOOF on route 201 and named him SimpleJack. He reminds me of Percy.
Dawn showed me all around Sandgem town explaining the basic of every town in Shinnoh. She also showed me how to catch pokemon. These are things even the simplest child would know. However, I guess Percy had been through town before me and had no idea what he was doing. She was under the impression that everyone from Twinleaf was as stupid as he is.
I caught a SHINX on route 202 and named him Sphinx. Spent some time leveling up. I also participated in my first trainer battle. The very first attack used against Vanguard scored a critical hit. However, thanks to his training he survived and emerged victorious.
I stopped to heal in Jublife City. I met Percy studying at the trainer school. I hope he could understand what her read. He challenged me again outside of town, but I defeated him one again. His TURTWIG did prove troublesome this time. It knocked Sphinx to under 10hp. I need to be careful. I also caught a STARLY on route 203. I named it Maverick Lonley nature woo-hoo! Also, bide and supersonic are the most annoying moves ever.
I made it to coal mining town of Oreburgh. Everything is covered in soot. The inhabitants are poor, but try to maintain a positive outlook on life. I'm glad I don't live here. The town is ugly.
It was here I was to have my first gym battle. The leader is Roark, a user of rock type pokemon. With only Vanguard capable of posing a threat I spent some extra time training him. Roark proved to be no match. Vanguard left Roark's stony pokemon a pile of ruble. After the battle looked at me triumphantly. He began to glow and then doubled in size! Vanguard evolved into Prinplup.
Having triumphantly obtained my first badge, I ham now back in Jublife city to rest for the night, confident that NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

First Blood
I set out this afternoon for Eterna city and my next gym badge. I caught a KRICKETOT on route 204 and named him Mustachio. I also noticed some goon claiming to be members of "Team Galactic" on the north side of town. I dispatch their pathetic pokemon and went to the Valley Windworks to investigate. I spotted more henchmen in the area and decided it was a good idea to train before confronting them. During my training time, everyone evolved. I know have LUXIO, BIBERAL, STARAVIA, and KRICKITUNE!
I entered the wind mills and was immediately attacked by Team Galatic. The grunt went down without a fight, but their leader, Mars, proved more difficult. In the end, Maverick and Sphinx used intimidate to weaken her Purugly and bring it down.
I found a SHELLOS on route 205. I ordered Mustachio to attack with a glancing blow. Instead, Mustachio decapitated it with one slash of his bladed arm. It caused a terrible mess.
Met and helped a girl named Cheryl in Enterna Forest. Caught a DUSTOX and named her Zeppelin. Hell yeah!
I arrived in Enterna city. Team Galactic was lurking around, but I avoided further confrontation for now. Percy was there as well. He had some advice for me, "Make sure your attacks hit!" he said. Brilliant. On the plus side, I ran into a gorgeous young girl named Cynthia. She gave me a new move and wished me luck. I feel as though I'm ready to challenge Enterna citiy's gym...
I am victorious, but not without cost. My most recent battle was fierce, and I feared to lose everything that I've accomplished thus far. I met Eterna's gym leader, Gardenia outside her gym. I was informed that I would have to beat her understudies before I would be allowed to battle her. I let Maverick do the grunt work. He one shotted every trainer in her gym. I felt confident going into my battle with Gardenia.
She sent out her first pokemon. A TURTWIG. I ordered Maverick to use wing attack. The stupid turtle survived with only a sliver of health. It used reflect, causing me to curse out loud. I decided to try and stall out the barrier. Maverick used double team as TURTWIG Tried in vain to bring her down. Finally the reflect faded and I felt confident in a sweep. Her next pokmon was a CHERRIM. Again wing failed to achieve a OHKO. Maverick was pelted with Magic leaf. It figures the stupid thing would have a perfect accuracy move. Maverick tore it to shreds the next turn, but not before taking a solid hit. Gardenia sent out her last pokemon. ROSERADE. I knew I might be in trouble. Maverick was powerful, but hurting. I felt confident that she could take one more hit, so I ordered a wing attack. AGAIN, just short of a KO. ROSERADE's berry activated and it recovered to about a third of it's health. I knew Maverick couldn't take another attack. Knowing Mustachio would resist the incoming grass attack, I sent him out. Mustachio used Bug Bite bringing ROSERAID into critical health range. This was it, another victory in the bag. I chose Bug Bite again, knowing Mustachio could take the last hit. ROSERADE used Magic Leaf...Critical Hit! I watched in horror as Mushtachio collapsed onto the gym floor, his armor pierced through with the razor sharp leaves. Shocked and still unable to process what had just happened, I sent out Maverick. With her blinding speed, she was able to attack before ROSERADE could react. I watched as Maverick tore ROSERADE limb from limb.
After the battle I carried Mustachio's body back to Floroma town and buried him in the meadow. I decided to stop for the night and try to clear my head. Tomorrow is a new day.

New Friends. Old Enemies.
It's a new day. Time to push yesterday from my mind and begin again. I need to regroup. Mustachio was a valued team member and finding someone to take his place won't be easy. I passed an old building on my way through the forest. I planned to return there and see what was going on. On my way there however, I had another run in with Team Galactic.
Apparently, they were kidnapping (pokenapping?) local pokemon. I found them holed up in an old warehouse. Having just lost one of my valued team members, I knew I needed to be careful. Once again, I took out the grunts with little trouble. When I reached the top of the building I found another Galactic Lieutenant waiting for me. She had a local business man and his pokemon held hostage. She went by the name of Jupiter. After a few intimidates from Sphinx and Maverick her STUNKTANK fell. Defeated once again, Team Galactic retreated.
As I went to check on the owner of the local bike shop to make sure he was ok, I ran into Cynitha again. She had another gift for me. This time it was a pokemon egg. I thanked her warmly and put the egg in my backpack. The shop owner gave me a bike as thanks for saving him.
My diversion complete, I set out once again to explore the old chateau I had seen in the forest. Warry of what might lurk there, I applied a repel for safety. As I explored the house I came across a room where the TV seemed to be flashing on and off. As I approached I was suddenly attacked by a poltergeist from within the TV. It turned out to be a ROTOM. The battle was long, but I managed to capture it. However in the attempt Zeppelin was slain. Although I didn't know him well, I still feel bad for not being able to save him. In any case, he gave his life for the good of the team. ROTOM was mine. I named him Wisp.
As I continued to explore my egg hatched. I was delighted to find a TOGEPI. I named him Lucky.
finally I made my way back to Oreburgh City via the cycling road. On my way I stopped to explore the hillside on Route 206. While there Iwas incredibly lucky to find a GILGAR! She shall be known as Vampirella.
Made it to Hearthome City. Caught BigBen the BRONZOR in Mt Coronet. A wild Ralts teleported away from me on route 208. FUCK.
I met Bebe and got Spike the EEVEE! It has a mild nature, now all's I need is a thunder stone...
I realized that my new teammates needed some training, so I decided to put my quest for badges on hold and make sure my team was in top shape.
Day three party: Vanguard the PRINPLUP (lv 24), Maverick the SATRAVIA (lv 23), Sphinx the LUXIO (lv 22), Wisp the ROTOM (lv 22), Vampirella the GLIGAR (lv 20), Lucky the TOGEPI (lv 16)

Shadow Boxing
I had put it off long enough. It was time to test my skills against Fantina. I cleared out the under trainer with ease and found my way into her arena. I knew this would be a tough battle. I had nothing to combat her powerful and crippling ghost attacks. I lead with Sphinx as he was my only team member with a dark type attack. Sphinx took down Fantina's DUSKULL without even taking damage. Maybe this wouldn't be so hard after all. NOPE. Fantina cut right to the chase and sent out her MISMAGIUS skipping her middle pokemon. I went in with a plan, and this wasn't it. I knew I had to get thing thing out as fast as possible. I ordered Sphinx to roar. Even through confusion, Sphinx held his ground and sacred her away. HAUNTER was up next. This was a pokemon a could deal with. I switched in Maverick, knowing that HAUNTER could not directly damage her. Maverick was confused but managed to set up a substitute. Safely behind a sub, she quickly dispatched HAUNTER.
Only MISMAGIUS was left. As she reappeared, Maverick was still safely behind her sub. We traded blows, MISMAGIUS was faster and broke the sub. Wing attack however hit for nearly have of her HP bar. Having hurt herself several times from confusion, Maverick was sitting at just of a quarter of her health. I suspected she wouldn't survive another attack. I switched Vanguard in hoping he could finish the phantom off before Fantina could heal her. Not thinking, I ordered a metal claw hoping for an attack increase. The damage was pitiful and in return Vanguard was smacked with a Magic Leaf. Magic leaf...again...fuck me. Because Vanguard is such a beast, he took lees than half damage from the super effective attack. He had one more chance to get in a solid blow before being forced to switch out. The next attack left MISMAGIUS at about 1/3 of her health. Vanguard needed to get out, or it was game over. Both Lucky and Wisp would easily be OHKO'd so my only option was Sphinx. I sent him out hoping he could survive an attack and KO with bite. Sphinx took the switch-in attack like a champ, but he needed to take one more to win. MISMAGIUS used shadow ball...
...and Sphinx went down. I was in big trouble. I had no one else capable of taking another powerful special attack. Feeling absolutely hopeless and seeing the end of my journey rapidly coming to an all-to-early end. I sent out Maverick, hoping for a miracle. I ordered and wing attack and said a short prayer. My only advantage was the fact that MISMAGIUS couldn't use her most powerful attack, Shadow Ball. MISMAGIUS fired off a Psybeam. The attack smashed straight into Maverick's chest, knocking her out of the sky. I let out a cry of despair. Two of my closest allies gone in a flash. Just as I was about to despair, Maverick slowly pulled herself up off the floor. She had survived with a single hit point! With a great effort, she rose into the air a dived straight into MISMAGIUS. MISMAGIUS paper thin defenses were no match for the bird on a mission. Once more, Maverick revenged her fallen comrade. MISMAGIUS slowly disintegrated into the either.
Once again, I was successful but humbled. I collected my badge and carried Sphinx's limp body out of the gym. Sometimes the taste of victory is sour indeed.

Pushing on
Not a whole lot to write about today. I met Percy outside of Hearthome city. After the draining battle with Fantina, I was in no mood to deal with him. He challenged me to a battle and once again proved to be a horrible trainer. I took out all my frustrations on him, going full force with every attack. It wasn't a long battle.
I spent the rest of the day training. I caught ShadowFire the HOUNDOUR on Route 214. I spent the rest of the day battling trainers from Hearthome to Veilstone. Lucky, Vampirella, and Shadowfire all evolved. More training this weekend, then the fourth gym.
Day five party: Vanguard the PRINPLUP (lv 29), Maverick the STARAVIA (lv 29), Wisp the ROTOM (lv 26), Lucky the TOGETIC (lv 22), Vampirella the GLISCOR (lv 27), ShadowFire the HOUNDOOM (lv 25)

Fight makes right
Victory once more, this time without the bitter aftertaste of loss accompanying it. After spending the better part of two days training I knew I could not put off my next challenge any longer. I made my way back to Veilstone city and entered the gym to challenge it's leader, Maylene.
I expected Maverick and Vampirella to be my two most useful team members, so I let them warm-up on the trainers within the gym. By the time I made my way to the head of the gym I felt ready to face Maylene. I lead with Wisp to match up with her MEDITITE. Wisp scored a critical hit against and took it down in the first move. Her next pokemon was MACHOKE. I let Wisp confuse it, and then switched into Maverick. Machoke disorientated, hurt itself on the switch. With one power blow Maverick put it down. Desperate to damage me at all, Maylene sent in her final pokemon LUCARIO. In my last two gym battles my opponents final pokemon has cost me a valuable member of my team, but this time I was ready. As Maylene ordered her LUCARIO to use a fighting attack I switched in Vampirella. She shrugged off the attack and prepared to strike. Lucario used another pitiful attack as Vampirella dig into the ground. The next turn she exploded from underneath LUCARIO taking over 90% of his health in a single blow. The last turn was just a formality. The weakened LUCARIO made one last dying attempt to strike back, managing to score a worthless critical hit. Vampirella quickly put it out of it's misery. After the battle Maverick began to glow with power and evolved right in front of the pile of his defeated foes. It seemed fitting that she evolve in a gym after carrying me nearly every gym match up to this point. I was extremely proud. I can't believe how much she's grown since we first met at the very start or my adventure. She truly is one of my best friends and companions.
Maylene awarded me my badge and I left for the gym planning to head to Pastoria city. As I exited the gym however, I was met by Dawn who seemed to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She told me Team Galactic had stolen her pokedex and was holed up in a nearby warehouse. I decided to rest for the night and deal with them tomorrow. I deserve at least one night of celebration before things get hairy again.
Day 6 party: Vanguard the PRINPLUP (lv 33), Maverick the STARAPTOR (lv34), Wisp the ROTOM (lv 31), Lucky the TOGETIC (lv 33), Vampirella the GLISCOR (lv 32), ShadowFire the HOUNDOOM (lv 26)

Two for one special
Dawn and I approached the Galactic warehouse. Turns out it was only two lonely goons holding down the fort. We took them out quickly. The warehouse was locked down, but I did find the HM fly. Sweet!
After helping Dawn I headed for Pastoria. I wanted to level ShadowFire up a bit, but it seems that every wild pokemon and trainer I ran into was using water or ground types. Wisp had a good time though, and Vanguard evolved into EMPOLEON.
When I made it to Pastoria I was confronted by Percy outside of the gym. He had apparently developed a healthy man-crush on the gym leader Crasher Wake (what an odd name). Wisp took out Percy's entire team singlehandedly.
When I made it into the gym, I quickly found out that the leader's odd name fit him. I also understood why Percy had taken such a liking to him. "Crasher" was a pudgy, middle aged man wearing only spandex pants, wrist bans, and a wrestling match. He babbled something to me, but I had honestly stopped paying attention. The battle was almost as quick as the one with Percy. water types are powerful in a well-built team, but have glaring weaknesses on their own. Wisp OHKO'd crasher's GYARADOS and got a solid hit in on his prized FLOATZEL before being forced to switch out due to crunch. I knew that FLOATZEL could do nothing to Vanguard, so I brought him in. He shrugged off a pitiful Aqua Jet aimed at finishing off Wisp and then barely paused as FLOATZEL attempted to bite him. He finished the otter off with Grass Knot. Crasher's final pokemon was QUAGSIRE...who is x4 weak to grass. He didn't even get to attack.
I was informed of more Galactic mischief as I excited the gym. Percy and Wake decided to take them down and ran off into the city. I know I should follow them. My friends always die if I'm not there to save them...
Day seven party: Vanguard the EMPOLEON (lv 36), Maverick the STARAPTOR (lv 34), Wisp the ROTOM (lv 36), Lucky the TOGETIC (lv 33), Vampirella the GLISCOR (lv 33), ShadowFire the HOUNDOOM (lv 27)

Mist and Shadow
I cashed a team Galactic member half nearly the whole way back to Veilstone before managing to corner him. After defeating him he rambled something about a bomb, Cyrus, and an ancient pokemon. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense. After he ran away, Cynthia showed up. We exchanged some pleasant small talk and then she gave me some medicine to help the PSYDUCKs on route 210. She also gave me an ancient relic to deliver to her grandmother in Celestic Town. The trip was slightly worrisome. The top part of route 210 was filled so foggy I had trouble finding my way. It was also filled with ace trainers. One double battle almost went south when I stumbled into it without being able to heal. Vanguard was my saving grace. He walled nearly everything on the opposing teams, drawing the fire away from my weaker team members.
When I made it to Celestic town I stumbled across Cyrus, the leader of Team Galactic, in a old cave. We battled, and I was victorious. I’m surprised he didn’t put up more of a fight. After the battle Cynthia’s grandmother gave me the move Surf…and cookies!
With my new move I fly back to Jublife City and surfed west. Shortly, I arrived in Canalave City. The next Gym Leader lived here. I heard he used Steel types, which might cause a small problem for my team. I decided to stop by Iron Island to train for a bit before challenging him. As I crossed the bridge in the middle of town, I ran into Percy again. Even though I had just destroyed him in our last battle, he insisted on battling again. The result was the same. I didn’t even break a sweat.
With Percy put in his place once more I continued to Iron Island. There I met up with a local name Riley. He seemed like a cool enough guy, and he had a kick-ass hat, so we decided to explore part of the island together. He gave me the HM Strength as well! Inside the island caves we ran into more Galactic members. They were completely clueless as to their purpose. Riley’s LUCARIO devoured them. I also found a Shiny Stone and used it to evolve Lucky into TOGEKISS. I plan to stop by the move tutor’s house and let him learn Air Slash before continuing.
After returning to Canalave, I entered the gym and prepared for my next match. I reached Byron after battling my way through his gym. The trainers steel pokemon were no match for ShadowFire and Vampirella. When I reached Byron I put Vampirella in the lead and prepared myself for the match. Byron’s first pokemon was MAGNETON. Vampirella avoided it’s attack by digging underground and then smashed it to pieces the next turn. Next up was STEELIX. I knew Byron wouldn’t have brought it in unless it threatened Vampirella. Knowing Byron wouldn’t order STEELIX to use Earthquake on my flying type, I switched in ShadowFire. ShadowFire had melted multiple STEELIXes on the way to Byron, so I was confident he could do the same here. I ordered a Fire Blast and prepared to take on his last pokemon. ShadowFire inhaled deeply and let out a mighty spay of fire. The brightness and heat forced me to turn my eyes away. When I looked back I was horrified to see the giant metal snake emerging from the smoke. It had avoided the attack! STEELIX rose up to it’s full height and slammed into the ground shaking the gym with the force of the impact. ShadowFire’s thin defenses were no match for the immense weight of the metal and rock pressing upon him. He was crushed. As STEELIX moved away, ShadowFire looked up at me from the floor. I’ll never forget the look in his eyes before they went blank. He seemed to be saying, “I’m sorry master. I tried my best.” He let out a small whimper and breathed his last.
Still, I knew I had a fight to finish. I sent out Vanguard, who quickly disposed of STEELIX. One mighty Surf picked the thing up and slammed it into the wall. The impact was so strong it left a giant dent in the steel. Byron’s last pokemon was a BASTIODON. I knew it would try to trap me with Metal Burst, so I did a lot of switching between Vanguard, Wisp, and Maverick. Finally I had whittled it down to just over half of its health. I knew that the time to finish it was here. I ordered Vanguard to use Surf. The ensuing wave swept BASTIODON off the ground and slammed him into the wall in the exact spot STEELIX and hit it. The impact of two heavy, steel pokemon was too much even for the reinforced gym wall. As BASTIODON hit it, the wall gave way. The ancient monster was carried right out of the gym and into the nearby harbor. It sank like a rock beneath the waves.
I collected my badge and made arrangements to sail back to the mainland to burry ShadowFire. He will not be easy to replace, and his dying eyes will haunt me forever.
Day eight party: Vanguard the EMPOLEON (lv 38), Maverick the SATRAPTOR (lv 37), Wisp the ROTOM (lv 38), Lucky the TOGEKISS (lv 36), Vampirella the GLISCOR (lv 38)
Graveyard (gone but never forgotten): Mustachio the KRICKETUNE (4/19 - 4/19), Zeppelin the DUSTOX (4/19 - 4/20), Sphinx the LUXIO (4/18 - 4/21) ShadowFire the HOUNDOOM (4/22 - 4/25)
