Welcome to Roulette Battle. What is roulette battle you may ask? Well, it's a unique way of battling where you have no idea what team you are using. The rules for roulette battle are generally the same though there is one difference.
Species Clause is not used here. Yes, you can use more than one of the same Pokemon. This will be explained further on.
How to:
So how do you do a roulette battle? Well both players count up how many Pokemon they have that are usable. Let's say for example Player 1 has 45 Pokemon and Player 2 has 90. Both players tell each other how many they have.
When that is done, both Players will pick 6 random numbers in the opposing Player's number range. So Player 1's number range is 1-90, while Player 2's number range is 1-45. What are these numbers used for? Well whatever the number the other player has said, you will go to your boxes and count to those specific numbers and whatever Pokemon is in that spot, and that will be the Pokemon you add to your team. So let's say Player 1 says the number 12, then Player 2 will go to the 12th number in their PC Box and whatever Pokemon is in that spot, will be the Pokemon they will use.
To put this into an even bigger perspective, let's say the 12th spot has a Kingdra. Player 2 will have to place that Kingdra into their team.
So once all 6 numbers are said, the other Player will pick their own 6 numbers and that will be the teams that are used. The first numbers that both Players have said will be the leads for the battle so you may not change the order of the numbers.
So for example their first number is 6, and your 6th spot is a Blissey, you may not change the lead. Even if you have an Aerodactyl, a Salamance and/or a Ninjask in your team along with the Blissey, you may not switch them around with Blissey.
Now why exactly are we excluding the Same Species Clause? If for example you get numbers like 27 and 52 and when you proceed to those numbers to place the Pokemon into your team, and they both happen to be the same Pokemon but with different movesets, you still must put them into your team.
So to give an even better example, let's say I'm Player 1 and Player 2 tells me numbers 4, 19, 47, 25, 66, and 73. I go to those numbers and I find out that numbers 19 and 66 both have a Dragonite, I must put both Dragonites into my team.
Q & A
1. What if the spot they picked is empty?
If the spot they picked is empty, don't just pick the next Pokemon beside the spot. Ask them for a new number. Whatever the new number is, that is the Pokemon you'll use. If it's still an empty spot, keep asking for a new number.
2. Any rules on held items?
If there's an item on the Pokemon that you have to add to your party, that item will be used. However, if there is no item on the Pokemon, you are free to put whatever you want. While this may seem unfair, most players don't have enough items to put on all their Pokemon.
3. What about Ubers?
Unless otherwise allowed, Ubers are still not allowed from battle. So if the number they pick happens to land on your Uber, you must ask for a new number.
4. How many Pokemons should I have to participate?
I recommend at least having 20 Pokemon to participate to allow for a successful random team.
5. The numbers Player "insert name" picked are all 6 of my "insert Pokemon name". Can I change them around so it's mixed?
No, you must use all six of your "insert Pokemon name". If you have multiple same Pokemon, it's best to place them apart from each other to prevent this.
6. I don't like this particular number that I was given, can I switch it to the next Pokemon beside it?
No, you must use whatever number that you were given. You're supposed to have random bad teams. This tests your ability of being able to use whatever's given to you. This is also where trust comes in. You must be able to trust the other player for using the numbers that you gave them and they need to be able to trust you in using the numbers you were given. These battles are supposed to be for fun, not for showing how strong you are. If you want to prove how strong you are, go somewhere else.
7. How do we number our Pokemon in a box?
You will start from the top left and end at the bottom right so the numbers will be listed going from left to right, top to bottom. Left all the way to the end of the row, and then start on the next row at the left.
