After reading Ninja's RMT, I decided to set up my own as well. It will be the first wifi team I used in my videos as well.
Team at a glance:
Team Overview:
When I first began making my team, I had to factor in a great deal of things. I also had to remember that despite Stealth Rock being banned here, it's an extremely common threat in the Wifi community, and I can't blame them. Stealth Rock has helped me so many times so I had to think of a team that's not hindered by it that greatly. Looking at all the common threats in the metagame, I decided to think of things that could both counter them, as well as catching the opponent by surprise. I also knew for sure I HAD to use Gastrodon since I fell in love with it the moment I first used it. So with Gastrodon in mind, I built a defensive core first; comprising of Gastrodon, Chansey and Zapdos. From there, I needed a good lead as well as some sweepers. In the end, I ended up with a well rounded team, able to cover each other's weaknesses. I spent a lot of time with Marriland's Team Builder as well as considering their abilities. The team turned out successful, focusing more on the defensive side with sweepers as support.
In-depth look:
Remilia the Crobat @ Black Sludge
Jolly
Inner Focus
232 HP, 56 Def, 76 SpD, 144 Spe
Taunt
Roost
Brave Bird
Super Fang
I've used Crobat in the past as my Taunt Lead and it turned out amazing. She shuts down any Stealth Rockers that are unable to outspeed it. (A great majority of them as Crobat's speed sits at 130 Base.) Why I refrained from maxing out speed is because she didn't need it. Her job is to shut down any set-ups, and with the EV investment, she already outspeeds most of them shy from other Crobats/Aerodactyls/Accelgor/Ninjask. Taunt of course is the key player in this as it shuts down not only leads from setting up, but any stallers trying to set-up/phaze. Despite having no attack investment, a STAB Brave Bird from a Crobat hurts, a lot. Roost is there to recover damage off of it and Super Fang is to hit anything physically bulky, and who doesn't like taking off 50% off of any non-Ghost Pokemon in one hit? Especially considering the ever popular Marvel Scale Dragonite. I could've replaced Super Fang with U-turn, but decided against it as Super Fang allowed more coverage against different Pokes.
Seph the Lucario @ Life Orb
Timid
Inner Focus
6 Hp, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nasty Plot
Aura Sphere
Dark Pulse
Vacuum Wave
My main special sweeper. With the introduction of Nasty Plot to Lucario in Gen 5 (Which was much needed), his special attack can finally outshine the common physical cousins of his. With Nasty Plot, I chose to ran a Timid Nature instead of a Modest one as this gives him more speed, allowing greater chance of going first. As most people are still used to 4th Gen, many of the battlers I faced predicted this to be the standard Physical set. They were quickly caught by surprise as a Nasty Plot was soon used and their physical wall is made useless. Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse gives fantastic coverage against all the types, with Aura Sphere never missing and Dark Pulse having the chance to flinch. Vacuum Wave finishes off this set, giving him a STAB priority move to either revenge kill or pick of Pokes that are faster than it as they are usually frail.
Marlboro the Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Calm
Storm Drain
252 Hp, 6 Def, 252 SpD
Ice Beam
Earth Power
Scald
Recover
Part 1 of the 3 part defensive core of my team. After seeing Gastrodon used in a video I saw, I just had to use it myself. It quickly became one of my most used Pokemon. With Storm Drain, it shuts down all incoming water moves, while also raising it's moderate special attack by a stage, turning it into a deadly special defensive slug. I had planned on using Toxic instead of Ice Beam, but I'm glad I didn't. Ice Beam became used the most out of the trio as it's not only the strongest, but has the best coverage in the metagame with Earth Power following behind. With it's typing and special defense, it's able to sponge up a great deal of various special attacks, from a STAB Draco Meteor coming out of a Hydregion, to a Shadow Ball from Chandelure. Gastrodon only fears a strong physical attack (usually surviving though) and a STAB Grass Knot/Solarbeam. But with Scald, it has the ability to cripple physical sweepers as Burn cuts their attack by half, giving Gastrodon a better chance of survivability. Earth Power for both STAB and the ability to lower a target's special defense, allowing a greater attacking opportunity for my sea slug. And finally Recover to brush off any damage on it as well as lefties increasing it.
Thor the Zapdos @ Leftovers
Timid
Pressure
194 Hp, 228 Def, 84 Speed
Thunderbolt
Roost
Heat Wave
Hidden Power (Grass)
My physical tank of the team and part 2 of the trio. With Zapdos already having a great defensive coverage, it's already naturally bulky. The EV investments allow it to block any physical attacks coming hard and fast at my team. And with it being bulky, Stealth Rock didn't bother it as much, Roost being able to recover it off anyhow. Thunderbolt for overall STAB as well as dealing a chunk to anything not resisted to it, despite having no special attack investment. Heat Wave for great coverage, and having a chance to burn isn't bad as well. Roost to recover off any damage it may have took as well as getting rid of it's Flying typing, giving it better survivability against Rock/Ice/Electric attacks. And finally Hidden Power Grass to deal with pesky bulky water/ground Pokes. It was a hard debate between Ice or Grass, but I had to go with Grass as I had nothing that could do anything against Water/Ground types. Zapdos also pairs nicely with blocking any physical/grass attacks launched at my slug and vice-versa for ice moves.
Tinkerbell the Chansey @ Eviolite Stone
Calm
Natural Cure
252 HP, 252 Def, 6 SpD
Aromatherapy
Stealth Rock
Softboiled
Seismic Toss
The final part of my defensive core. With the introduction of the Eviolite Stone in Gen 5, any NFE (Not fully evolved) Pokemon gain a 50% boost in their defense and special defense stats, which is immensely helpful as this means Chansey's defense surpasses her older sister, Blissey. With more bulk than Blissey, Chansey is able to really shine as my defensive wall, blocking both physical and special with the EV investments. There were so many times when Chansey saved my skin with her bulk. With the moves, she serves as an all around support, able to set up AND become the cleric of the team, removing any nasty statuses. Aromatherapy is able to cure any status problems on any of my guys which was incredibly helpful as T-Wave and WoW are common. Softboiled to recover her huge amount of HP back and prolonging her life. Stealth Rock to help deal damage to opponent's switch ins as well as break pesky stuff like Focus Sash/Sturdy and Marvel Scale D-Nite. And finally Seismic Toss to deal a constant damage to the enemy regardless of their bulk.
Atlas the Terrakion @ Air Balloon
Jolly
Justified
6 Hp, 252 Att, 252 Spe
Swords Dance
Sacred Sword
Stone Edge
X-Scissor
My main physical sweeper. I've played with Terrakion in the past but only a bit. Looking at the team I already had, Terrakion quickly filled any holes I had left open, being able to both block rock moves as well as attack on the physical side. Terrakion having both power and speed made it an excellent choice as my physical attacker, with a speed nature to give it maximum speed. Swords Dance can help double or even triple it's already high attack, and switching it in on a Dark-type attack increases it's attack by 1.5. I chose Sacred Sword over Close Combat based on experience. Sacred Sword is also able to bypass any defense buffs they may have placed on themselves though which would be way more helpful than the few extra damage Close Combat gives. Stone Edge is for more STAB damage as well as dealing with Flying types that resist Sacred Sword as well dishing out huge damage with it's power. X-Scissor finishes this set off against pesky Psychic Types thinking to rain down on Terrakion's parade.
Conclusion:
After having a few battles with this team, I really liked the overall layout of it. They each covered their weaknesses really nicely, with Gastrodon and Chansey being the key players, Chansey more so but come on, it's Chansey. The rest of the team did their jobs like they were meant to which was great. I was happy with the team and there was nothing I would really change about it. But of course, no team is perfect and this team certainly still had it's weaknesses but I pulled through and I have this team to thank for it. And like I said in my videos, I've never used any of these guys together before so it gave me a new experience having them work together.
