This is the 5th gen team I used for the 5th gen only tournament, (with a slight update). So far it's been a lot of fun to use, and actually has worked quite well for me.
Team at a glance:
Overview:
Well, I put a good amount of thought into this team. I decided to change direction completly from my no switch psychic team of 4th Gen, and plow into a switch built team of 5th. This team has all but 2 immunities (grass, water), and with a good balance between sweepers and walls, it actually works quite well. It covers it's own weaknesses, even if it can only do that then switch out again.
In Depth:
Irony @ Leftovers
Sassy
Iron Barbs
6 HP, 252 Sdef, 252 Def
Moveset:
Stealth Rock
Leech Seed
Protect
Iron Head
Ok, Ferrothorn was first on my list, because, well, it's Ferrothorn. I saw it's pre evolution, saw it's ability, and said: Hell yea, I'm doing that. Then after seeing Ninja using it I couldn't say no. The set is similar to Ninja's, but I have Iron Head, because I like it's coverage better with my team. Gyro ball would have come in handy a few times, but I'm happy with my decision. I'll just make more for the others.
The purpose of Ferrothorn is rather obvious. It'll wear down anything that doesn't have a super effective hit to it, and once both rocks and leech seed are up, I can inflict some damage with Iron Head.
Also: With many resistances, and an immunity to poison, this helped my crazy immunity set up. And, having a x4 weakness to fire actually fits into my plans. (see below)
Dyna Blade @ Life Orb
Adamant
Sheer Force
6 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd
Moveset:
Brave Bird
Rock Slide
U-Turn
Superpower
Ok. I saw this thing, and said hell yea, I'm using it. It looks too cool not to use. After using it for a while, I agree with myself. It doesn't have many moves to take advantage of sheer force, but it has rather good diversity. If it were faster it'd be better.
I used it as a physical sweeper, as it wasn't fast enough to scout successfully.
Also: Continuing of the immunity streak: Bravairy is both immune to Ghost and Ground.
Starlight @ Choice Scarf
Modest
Flashfire
6 HP, 252 Spatk, 252 Spd
Moveset:
Fire Blast
Hidden Power (ground)
Energy Ball
Shadow Ball
With Chandelure's crazy spatk, and cool looks, I really wanted to use it. Also; I love using fire types, but unfortunatly, just like ice types, fire types aren't very good in the metagame. Chandelure defies that though.
Chandelure is my main Special sweeper. It comes in, blasts, then runs and hides before it can get hit. The choice scarf allows it to outspeed most of it's threats, and with it's crazy 145 base spatk, it'll smash anything even with a x.5 effective move. Also: this is the key to my two x4 fire weaknesses. They are actually completely fire bait. I'll bait them to use a fire move on it, then I switch to this. When flashfire is active, Fire Blast will OHKO most enemies that don't resist, or don't have great bulk. Also it is my fire immunity, and one of my normal immunities.
Kachina @ Flame Orb
Bold
Magic Guard
6 HP, 252 Def, 252 Sdef
Moveset:
Psycho Shift
Cosmic Power
Roost
Stored Power
Ok. This think I just loved. I originally used it in black version on my playthrough and it demolished my team as a wild NPC at a lower level. I immediatly hunted another one down and captured it. I destroyed everything in sight with it. It's stats may not seem too good, but try saying that with max EV's in the defences, and then with cosmic power to boost them more. The issue I have with this pokemon though, is that it's a slow moving tank, that takes forever to set up. Once it does, it's fun to watch your opponant be completly unable to touch it with anything, while dealing 260 base power psychic damage to whatever. Adding a flame orb and psycho shift adds to it's defencive power.
It's got an immunity to ground, and, after burn, all major status.
Phreeoni/Ten Ant @ Wide Lens
Jolly
Hustle
6 HP, 252 atk, 252 spd
Moveset:
Iron Head
X-Scissor
Hone Claws
Stone Edge
Ok. I really wanted to do this after doing the battle subway a few times. The single/double train boss has it, and it's so fast and powerful it really left an impact.
Phreeoni/Ten Ant is one of my Physical Sweepers. With Hustle, it has about the equivalant of 450 atk with Jolly, with the wide lens, all moves have about 90% accuracy. (aside from stone edge). After one hone claws, this thing is a complete monster. It will demolish many things. Also, since it actually has physical defence, it is hard to take down without special attacks or fixed damage moves. It comes in, revenges, and then contiues to wreak.
It's my second immunity to poison and my other x4 weakness to fire (see above).
Alphonse @ Life Orb
Adamant
Iron Fist
(I honestly dont' remember but I think it was something like 252 Atk, 158 HP, 100 Speed)
Moveset:
Stone Edge
Hammer Arm
Shadow Punch
Earthquake
Ok, Unfortunatly, Golurk was definatly the weakpoint of my team. With it's meteocre speed, and low edurance for hits, It usually got KO'd with only being used as fodder, and immunity, or got on single non-KO hit in.
I used it as my second physical sweeper, sort of. It rarely got to do much. I was hoping for 'the new metagross-like pokemon' but it didn't go well. The only benefit I had from using it is most people forgot what types it is.
It has immunities to Electric and Normal types.
Closing thoughts:
I really love most of this team. Ferrothorn, Chandelure, Durant and some normal-flying type combination have great synergy. If it can't be walled with Ferrothorn, it can be KO'd by Chandelure. They bring in a ground type? switch to the flier to get out of there. It seems to work extremely well with that, because for some reason that's how everyone reacts to it. Also Chandelure covers both of Ferrothorn's weaknesses, and Ferro sponges off Chandelure's like nothing happens.
Sigilyph works well, but as I mentioned it's slow paced, and usually get's KO'd before doing much. The same goes for Bravairy, and Golurk. Advice relating to those three would be appreciated.
All in all, a very fun team to play with.
