Its has been three years since the defeat of Giratina and claiming champion spot. He is still champion and now has another girlfriend named Tiffany from America who moved to Kanto. While the others were gone in America, Zero had been roaming around regions studying the art in claiming a legendary's power and training his body & mind. He wanted to get stronger as he not only trained his body & mind, but studied day and night as the power of a legend was much difficult to claim. He decided to go to America to expand his knowledge. After learning more about the legends, he had to choose which power he wanted for his pokemon. After careful thinking, he decided to aim for the power of Palkia. Zero left America and went back to Kanto to speak with palkia at the shrine where he past through various test and summoned the space god. Zero had to prove himself to Palkia as he showed him his determination and battled against the space god. In the end, he won and Palkia putting his trust to Zero has given him some of his power as Shadow embraced it. Zero thanked Palkia as he returned back to his realm. Now with Palkia's power, Zero continued beating challengers without ever using it until the right time. Right now, no one knows that Zero acquired the legendary power of Palkia.
