so my friend's brother put a pokemon into the pokewalker, he then created a new file and tried to put another pokemon in the pokewalker, then my friend said that it was broken... how do you fix it?

How is it broken? You should be able to take the Pokemon out.

I had the same problem when I reset my Gold version. You have to press Down+X+L at the pokewalker screen to reset the pokewalker, but he will lose everyhong on it including his Pokemon and any items, watts, and Pokemon caught.
