Personally, I think that it's a really cool addition to the series.

They look really good, I wasn't able to see a game that looked as good as this until gen 3 came out. The fact it's on 3DS I think is a good idea for them trying to sell more of them.
On the Sylveon factor, I believe it will either be.
Flying or Normal.
Personally, I don't think they would name it after a poison plant in China. I mean, look at it. It's too adorable to be a poison type

I feel that's just it though, If you read enough of that reddit, you can see that it puts forth that it's the only one that has fangs it's original release picture, and what eeveelution ISN'T adorable. I feel like this combination would be the best way to make a cute/cool evolution for eevee that is poison type.
