Welcome to Shark's guide to the anime.
To say the least, I am, well was, an obsessive bastard about the T.V. show until recently.
First off I MUST make this clear;
THE GAMES CAME OUT FIRST.
Too many people think the other way around.
MY OPINION:
Early seasons in Kanto- Funloving, easy to watch, and very entertaining. Numerous plot twists and ACTUAL PLOT. It also helped reform, reorganize, and all around improve the pokemon games. (with examples being the difference in sprites of gastly from red to yellow) This also made the games MUCH more popular and aloud the game Pokemon, Special Pikachu Edition, to be releced (More commonly known as Pokemon Yellow Version, though it is not actually that.)
In Johto- the fun loving spirit of the Kanto region was kept up, with very interesting ideas involved. The plot was kept up and it was a very good follow up to the previous. (Note, this IS the season of which I have seen the least, but I say this based off of what I have seen of it.)
In Hoenn- Now, this is where it gets bad. The season starts off strong, but loses a LOT of plot. Team rocket gets more repeditive and less creative, and the T.V. show has been going on too long and it is getting just plain repeditive, especially around the Advance Battle season. Also, all forms of bombs and other violent objects have been censored out by now.
In Sinnoh- The target audience has been moved down further, away from the AGING original. This was there worst mistake. they dumb down the dialogue, lose 95% of the remaining plot, and it just becomes so unrealistic, that is horrible. This is honestly where I stopped watching. The first season of Sinnoh. I cannot possibly watch it any further. It dissapoints me that the T.V. show I loved so much as a kid has deteriorated to the point it is at.
ADD: The Manga had the original ideas for all of the early stages, including the games. I don't believe it continued long though, so I don't believe it infuenced Hoenn even, but this is based off of my own personal beliefs 100%. I have read some of it, but not much.
As for the anime movies, I loved the first 6. Then they all started blending together and I lost track of them.
